Permission for loading of Radial Blanket Sub-Assemblies in PFBR.
AERB has issued Permission for loading of radial Blanket Sub-Assemblies (SAs) in Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) core on April 10, 2024, after satisfactory safety review. The PFBR is India's first indigenous 500MWe Fast breeder Reactor, at Kalpakkam in Tamil Nadu . The reactor core loading signifies an advanced stage of commissioning, towards making the reactor operational.

REJOINDER - AERB has been apprised of certain sections of the media, (Hindu/ 24/12/2023 GRH doctor secures patent for alternative to lead apron December 23, 2023 11:52 pm | Updated 11:52 pm IST – MADURAI, THE HINDU BUREAU) corroborating to the claim of Dr. Senthilkumar, Assistant Professor of Radiology Physics, Madurai Medical College, that the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, recently certified and recognised his said patent on “lead-free” radiation protective apron. AERB would like to clarify to public at large that AERB neither recognises nor certifies any radiation protective apron either with or without lead. It may be noted that Dr. Senthil Kumar has neither approached AERB nor received any such certification from AERB. Concerned individuals are hereby informed not to accept the claims about the above AERB certifications, by Dr. Senthil Kumar. AERB requests media houses to please fact-check with AERB, in case of doubts, before publishing such articles of self-proclamations.

AERB issued Permission to KAPP-4 for the following activities based on satisfactory outcome of the requisite safety reviews: a) Initial Fuel Loading into Reactor Core, b) Part Borated Water addition to Storage, c) Cooling and Moderator systems in specified limited quantity and d) Addition of Heavy Water to the PHT system. KAPP-4 is the second unit of KAPP 3&4 (2x700 MWe) indigenous project set up at Kakrapara in Gujarat.

AERB has issued permission for operation of KAPP Unit - 3 up to 100% FP on August 25, 2023, based on satisfactory outcome of the requisite safety reviews. KAPP-3, the first unit of the indigenously designed and built 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water based NPPs in India. KAPP-3 is currently under Commissioning. Earlier, AERB issued the permission for operation of the unit up to 90% FP on June 14, 2023.
